Classic Marinara



  • 2 cans whole peeled San Marzano tomatoes
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 yellow onion, peeled and halved
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • salt & pepper, to taste


  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine tomatoes, butter, oregano, basil, and onion halves. Break up larger tomato chunks with a wooden spoon.

  2. Cook, stirring occasionally, until mixture forms a thick sauce, 2-3 hours. Salt and pepper to taste.

  3. Remove onions halves before serving.
