Farina Bakery: Rooted in Care, Craft, and Community

We caught up with the folks at Farina Bakery in Portland to talk about their approach to baking—and their partnership with New Seasons.

Portland's sweet scene definitely leveled up in 2014 when Farina Bakery opened its doors in the SE Hawthorne neighborhood—crafting perfectly soft and chewy French macarons, decadent cookies, homestyle pastries, and artfully designed custom cakes. 

Their approach is and always has been to create classic desserts with craft and intention that are also approachable and no-fuss delicious. It's no wonder they've grown from a small neighborhood bakery to one that serves the greater Portland area.  

We've been Farina fans for years, and so in 2025, we were delighted to partner with them to bring New Seasons customers some of the best macarons and baked goods around. 

We caught up with Emma Vaitkus, general manager at Farina Bakery, to get the scoop on all things baking, process, and passion.

NSM: What's unique about Farina Bakery? 

EV: Our goal is always balance: desserts that aren't overly sweet or fussy, but feel intentional and well-made. There's a lot of heart behind what we do, and that shows up in both the product and the experience of working with us.

NSM: What is your mission and motivation as a company? 

EV: We're motivated by the idea that a beautiful, well-made dessert can create a small but meaningful moment of joy in someone's day. At the same time, we're committed to building a business rooted in care for our team, our partners, and the community we serve.

NSM: What is it like working with New Seasons? 

EV: We've been partnering with New Seasons Market for about five months, and it's been a rewarding experience. Serving 22 New Seasons locations meant we had to ramp up production significantly, and I'm so inspired by our team's ability to rise to the challenge. Their dedication, creativity, and sheer determination to make it work have been incredible to witness. This partnership feels like a real milestone for the bakery, and seeing our team's excitement and enthusiasm as they bring it to life has been really moving. We're thrilled to get our products into the hands of so many more people and delight new customers. It's wonderful to work with a company that supports small businesses like ours and helps us grow.
