Durant at Red Ridge Farms: Five Generations of Farming the Willamette Valley

Meet Durant at Red Ridge Farms—a fifth-generation estate in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, and the makers behind one of New Seasons’ favorite local olive oils.

At New Seasons, we take pride in cultivating long-term partnerships with local farmers, fishers, ranchers, and makers. And we love telling the stories behind the products you find on our shelves, like Durant at Red Ridge Farms—a five-generation family estate in Oregon's Willamette Valley.

The family's farming legacy began in 1973 with English walnuts, hazelnuts, Italian prunes, and cherries, and they were among the first in Oregon to plant wine grapes in the Dundee Hills.

That pioneering spirit continued, and in 2004, they planted olives—establishing one of the few olive groves in the state. Today, they remain the only commercial olive mill in the region. With master miller Paul Durant at the helm, the family produces award-winning olive oils known for their distinctive Pacific Northwest aromas and flavors.

Over the years, the estate has grown to include Durant Vineyards Winery & Tasting Room, Durant Kitchen, Durant Body Care, Red Ridge Farms Specialty Plant Nursery, the Farm Shop, overnight lodging, expansive gardens, and the Durant Nature Trail.

We caught up with Paul to get the scoop on their craft, process, and commitment to land stewardship.

NSM: What are you most proud of about the work you do?

PD: We have a deep connection to this land. We don't just see ourselves as farmers—we're also caretakers of this hillside, with a responsibility to steward it thoughtfully for generations to come. Being able to share the beauty of this special region through our products and experiences is something we're incredibly proud of.

NSM: What's unique about Durant?

PD: We're more than just a vineyard—it's a full farm estate that brings together wine production, olive milling, culinary goods, gardens, and immersive visitor experiences. We're also Oregon's only commercial olive mill, producing internationally award-winning olive oil in a region once thought unsuitable for olive cultivation.

NSM: What is your mission and motivation as a company?

PD: To be thoughtful stewards of the land while continuing to learn and grow in our sustainable practices. Curiosity drives us—whether it's making better products, caring for our natural resources, or building genuine connections with our customers.

NSM: What's it like working with New Seasons?

PD: We've been partnering with New Seasons since 2017, and we truly value having our olive oils featured in a grocery store that emphasizes locally sourced produce and supports Pacific Northwest farmers, artisans, and food makers.

There are endless ways to enjoy the incredible olive oils from Durant, including this delicious recipe for Lemon Olive Oil Cupcakes from the Durant family—featuring Durant Lemon Fused Olive Oil. You can find it, and other Durant favorites at your neighborhood New Seasons!
