Our Story

New Seasons Market began in 2000 when three families got together to open a neighborhood market, a place where local communities can come together to connect with where their food comes from. A friendly, inviting place that honors its region’s farmers, ranchers, growers and makers—helping them prosper for generations to come.

Over the years, our community has grown, but our goal is still the same: to build community through good food.

Enter one of our stores and fall in love with our friendly staff. Chat with one of our butchers and go home with the perfect cut of meat, or discover the best way to grill wild-caught salmon. Grab a bottle of locally made wine to enjoy with a fresh, seasonal cheese suggested by our staff. Taste the season’s first strawberries, grown just down the road. And if you don’t have time to make it from scratch, stop by our deli for fresh, seasonal dishes, all prepped and ready to go for a delicious meal.

We may be in the local food business, but we’re also in the business of taking care of our people. Our staff bring our mission to life everyday, and we’re committed to taking care of them. From supporting public policy for increasing minimum wage and offering paid parental leave, to comprehensive healthcare plans and a 30% storewide discount, we work to create a culture of caring, openness, fairness and trust, where all staff can thrive. We’re on a never-ending quest for exceptional quality. From every apple to every jar of nut butter, each product in our store must answer two questions: How well was it grown and how good does it taste? Whether it’s locally grown strawberries, antibiotic and hormone-free meats, or a New Seasons Market Partner Brand product made in collaboration with one of our awesome partners, you can count on us to source only the best, high-quality foods available, often grown right here in the PNW. Get more info on our Partner Brand partnerships here.

As the first grocer to become a certified B Corporation committed to a triple bottom line, we donate 10 percent of our after-tax profits to more than 1000 local organizations supporting hunger relief, education, and protecting the environment in our communities. We donate to local nonprofits when you bring in a reusable shopping bag or drop off refundable cans, and we donate excess food to local food recovery partners, redirecting tons (literally!) of nutritious food to those who need it most. We are committed to doing our part to inspire environmental stewardship by leading the way in our efforts to reduce food waste, excess packaging, water use, and emissions. We do this by tracking our usage, setting goals, sourcing locally whenever possible, and getting our communities involved. Check out more on our sustainability page here.

At New Seasons Market, our mission is and always has been to offer the best, high-quality foods available while remaining committed to taking care of each other, the neighborhoods we serve, the relationships we cultivate, and the environment.
