Scratch Cocktail Sauce



  • 1 ½ pint of cherry tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive or grapeseed oil
  • 1 teaspoon each salt and black pepper
  • 2-3 tablespoons freshly grated horseradish root (available in produce year-round)
  • 1 lemon, juice and zest
  • 1 Tablespoon hot sauce of your choice


  1. Preheat broiler to high and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment or foil.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss cherry tomatoes with oil, salt and pepper. Lay out on prepared baking sheet and broil in preheated oven for 10-12 minutes.

  3. Using a food processor, add all remaining ingredients to the broiled tomatoes. Pulse several times until mixture has reached desired consistency.

  4. Season to taste with additional salt, pepper, hot sauce or lemon juice. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
