In a large pot, bring beans and water to a boil. Cover and reduce to simmer for 4 hours. Add 1 tablespoon sea salt, mash with potato masher (3-4 mashes to thicken liquid but keep most beans whole) and simmer another 30 minutes uncovered. Add more salt to taste if needed.
