THE ACID SOLUTION: NATURAL HELP FOR HEARTBURN AND REFLUX
There are plenty of drugs available both over-the-counter and by prescription to help address the uncomfortable symptoms of indigestion and reflux, but as soon as they wear off or you eat a certain trigger food again they come back. CANCER: A HOLISTIC STRATEGY FOR PREVENTION AND TREATMENT
If you or someone you love has experienced cancer, then you know what an utterly challenging, at times frightening journey cancer treatment can be. In this hopeful discussion series, Naturopathic doctors that specialize in cancer will present a new paradigm for cancer prevention and treatment. Participants will leave with a clear strategy they can adopt to decrease their own cancer risk. People living with cancer or who are in remission following cancer treatment will discover insights drawn from Naturopathic and Chinese Medicine that transcend tumortargeted intervention to address the ultimate causes of cancer. Special consideration, too, will be given to therapies that improve the efficacy and reduce the side-effects
of conventional cancer treatments. If you are concerned about cancer, please bring your questions and join us during one of these empowering evenings.

CONSCIOUS EATING THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS
Americans gain an average of 5 pounds during the holiday season. Extra treats and holiday parties certainly take their toll, but they don't have to. Come learn strategies for making conscious choices about how and what to eat through the holidays to avoid gaining weight this holiday season. Sample recipes will be provided. CC, HV

COOL THE BURN: EATING AN ANTIINFLAMMATORY DIET
The modern Standard American Diet (SAD) has left many people in need of nutritional intervention. For one reason or another, you may find that you are no longer able to tolerate foods such as wheat, dairy, eggs, corn or cane sugar; foods that you once enjoyed daily. In addition, you may find that these common foods initiate an unwanted inflammatory response, leaving you with symptoms ranging from joint pain to digestive disorders. For many, the recommended remedy is to embark on an “Anti-Inflammatory Diet.”
Research has revealed that inflammation, in its many forms, may be lurking in the background of a variety of chronic diseases including arthritis, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, some cancers, heart disease and digestive disorders, among others. Did you know that common foods, such as wheat and corn may contribute to inflammation in the body? Learn which foods can help to “cool the burn” by providing anti-inflammatory benefits. We will outline how to successfully navigate an anti-inflammatory diet and provide shopping lists, recipes and meal plans.

DOULAS: SUPPORT FOR BIRTH AND THE TRANSITION TO PARENTHOOD
Are you expecting a baby or planning to become pregnant? Have you heard of doulas but not quite sure what they do? BirthJourneys is a group of experienced and knowledgeable doulas who work collectively to support parents during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. They will answer some of the questions you may have about doulas, such as: Why do you need doula support? How does a doula support a woman and her partner during childbirth? What does the research say about doula support and how it helps to decrease the use of pain medication and the risk of cesarean section? How does a doula support you if you choose to have an epidural or are having a cesarean birth? How do you find the right doula for you? How much do doula services cost (and how to afford one on a limited budget)? How are doulas different from doctors and midwives? All these questions and more will be answered and you will have the opportunity to speak with the BirthJourneys doulas one-on-one to learn more about the difference a doula makes.

DRUG-FREE OPTIONS FOR TREATING ADD/HD, DEPRESSION
AND ANXIETY IN CHILDREN AND ADULTS
Are you suffering from or showing signs of attention deficit disorder (ADD/HD), depression or anxiety? Would you like to learn about safe and effective, scientifically researched, natural alternatives to prescription medications for these conditions? Dr. Tanya Hudson, a naturopathic physician, will be discussing possible causes for ADD/HD, depression and anxiety, along with an overview of the standard
conventional treatments and scientifically researched alternative treatments that have been very successful in her own clinical practice. She will also be covering some key laboratory tests which
are instrumental in helping her target her treatment recommendations. Her lecture will conclude with six simple ways you can begin to optimize your whole health.

FLORA POWER: THE IMPORTANCE OF PROBIOTICS FOR DIGESTIVE HEALTH
You probably know the live cultures in your morning yogurt are good for you. But what about that fermented ketchup inoculated with beneficial bacteria? Recently there has been a huge wave of interest in creating novel products that contain friendly flora— but these “bugs” have been residing in fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, tempeh and miso (not to mention you) all along. The term probiotics refers to the live strains of “good” bacteria that populate the intestinal tract. No matter what you call them – friendly flora, gut bugs, Acidophilus or probiotics, the importance of beneficial bacteria cannot be understated. If you would like to learn how probiotics promote optimal digestion come to this class. We will discuss the long list of positive health effects, as well as how to maintain balance among microflora. Learn which foods contain good bacteria and how to choose the best probiotics supplement. CH, HV, MP, SC

FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT: A DISCUSSION ON GRIEF AND LIFE AFTER LOSS
Join Linda Cohen, creator of the blog "1000 Mitzvahs," and Dr. Juniper Martin, ND, for an informal discussion about the process of grief, how to honor loss in the cycle of life and what it means to travel from darkness to light. Dr. Martin is a holistic physician who feels that the lessons grief and loss can bring have never been more important. After her father’s death in 2006, Linda Cohen began a mitzvah project to perform 1000 acts of kindness in his memory. She is currently writing and speaking about this
project and the lessons she’s learned. MP, SC

Bring your walking shoes (and call the Wellness Department of the appropriate store to sign up) for this comprehensive store tour that illuminates the myriad of products available at New Seasons Market for those avoiding gluten.
