By the time Alan Hummel was 13, he was already spending his summers cutting meat at his brother-in-law’s butcher shop. By the age of 21, he was serving an apprenticeship at a conventional grocery store.
After managing several different meat departments, Alan became the Meat and Seafood Merchandiser/Buyer for Nature’s Fresh Northwest. He was exposed to the idea of sustainably raised meat and seafood; a world that was new to him. It was just the challenge he needed.
In 1999, the challenge of building a brand new department for our first New Seasons Market was too attractive to pass up. Alan became our Director of Meat and Seafood.
Today, Alan spends his days working with store staff and enjoying the long-standing relationships he has with our meat and seafood vendors.
Alan is an avid gardener and has a passion for backpacking and camping.
