New Seasons Market Supports Growing Gardens

“New Seasons Market is a great partner for us because our focuses are similar,” says Libby Upham, Growing Gardens Development Director. “We both promote local, fresh food and give folks the education and support to improve nutrition, cook more healthfully and strengthen our communities.”

The partnership between New Seasons Market and Growing Gardens is a given. Since 1996 they’ve been directly working towards ending hunger in our community by supporting low-income Portlanders grow organic food. As a neighborhood grocery store, we believe that strong, healthy communities are based upon a strong, local food foundation and Growing Gardens is a big piece of that picture.

And we’ve had fun together. In 2005 and 2009 we hosted one of our Benefit Barbecues in their honor. One hundred percent of the proceeds went straight to Growing Gardens. In 2008 our head chef Krista Anderson was a big part of “Chef in My Garden,” an event benefiting Youth Grow – a program specifically dedicated to teaching kids how to grow their own food in school gardens. "Kids who have a hand in tending a veggie garden are far more likely to eat veggies, even those they swear they don't like!" says Libby.

We’ve also donated lots of food baskets to their “Veggie Balls” (aka their annual fundraiser).
