We have an incredible selection of Northwest apples in stores now. There is everything from well known varieties, such as Honeycrisp from Garry Gottschalk, (White Salmon, WA) Braeburn, Phillipe packing, (Wenatchee WA), Gala from Columbia Gorge Organics, (Hood River, OR), and Fuji from John Doebler, (Wenatchee, WA), to lesser known varieties, such as Ambrosia from Columbia Marketing, (Wenatchee, WA), Swiss Gourmet from Bridges Produce, (Hood River, OR), Sweet Orin from the Stewart Brothers, (Hood River, OR), and Silken from Craig Campbell, (Tieton, WA).
We also have the only Sweet Tango apples in the state of Oregon, a new variety developed by the University of Minnesota (the same people who developed the Honeycrisp) and now grown by Stemilt Growers (Wenatchee, WA). There is also an incredible assortment of heirloom apples, including Calville Blanc, Cox Orange Pippin, Golden Roxbury, and Orleans Reinette, from Heirloom Orchards (Hood River, OR).
Northwest pears are also peaking, with Bosc and Red Bartlett coming from Stemilt Growers (Wenatchee, WA), Tosca coming from Dovex (Selah, WA), Red Anjou coming from First Fruits, (Yakima, WA) Concorde coming from Gary Gottschalk (White Salmon, WA), and Bartlett, Comice, and Seckle coming from Columbia Gorge Organics, (Hood River, OR). Columbia Gorge also has some nice Asian pears, currently offering Hosui and Kosui.
Wild chantrelles are coming in with good supplies and looking very nice. Bella Organics, (Sauvie Island, OR) and Farm 47, (Aurora, OR) continue to have heirloom tomatoes for us and will continue until the frost gets them. Inaba Farm has an assortment of hot peppers and concorde grapes, Siri and Son Farm, (Clackamas, OR) has good supplies of red bell peppers, broccoli, cabbage, and is starting up with winter squash, and Spring Hill Farm, (Albany, OR) is getting back into good supplies of kales, parsleys, and collards and is starting up with watercress. Ralph’s Greenhouse, (Mt. Vernon, WA) is into his famous leeks.
At Market Day this week we have an assortment sweet peppers from Farm 47, amber cup squash and purple carrots from Gathering Together Farm, (Philomath, OR) an assortment of beets, including chioggia, bull’s blood, and kestrel, and heirloom winter squash from Gus and Co. (Ridgefield, WA), and shelling peas and assorted hot peppers from Red Truck Farm (Sauvie Island OR). |
