New Seasons Market Opens Happy Valley Store

Press Release - August 29, 2007

Portland, Ore. – Locally owned and operated New Seasons Market opened its ninth and largest grocery store today in the Clackamas County town of Happy Valley. Located in the Happy Valley Town Center at the intersection of
Sunnyside Road and 157th Street, the newest New Seasons Market opened for business at 8 a.m. and hosted a special ceremony for the community at 10 a.m. The ceremony began with a ribbon cutting and welcome by the North Clackamas Chamber of Commerce, and included remarks from Happy Valley Mayor Rob Wheeler. As part of the opening celebrations, the store will host a barbecue on the weekend of September 1 and 2 to benefit Happy Valley Family YMCA youth programs.

“We are pleased to be part of the Happy Valley community. Each time we open anew store we add more products that come from local farms, ranches and producers. By supporting local family farms we help ensure that these farms stay in our community for generations to come,” said, Lisa Sedlar, New Seasons Market president.

“This is our largest store and the bigger size means we have more space for prepared foods such as wood-fired pizza, ramen noodle bowls and lots of grab-n-go meals for those times when you’re in a hurry or can’t figure out what to make for dinner. More space also means more natural and organic foods like free range chicken and organic milk, as well as family favorites like Frosted Flakes and Coca Cola—because who has time to make two trips for your grocery needs?”

Store Amenities
At 50,000 square feet, the Happy Valley store offers many of the well-loved amenities of all New Seasons stores, but also has a few new elements such as the first New Seasons Market cooking school and significantly expanded prepared foods and grocery sections. Like all New Seasons Markets, the Happy Valley store offers a mix of essential groceries for everyday living as well
as organic produce, natural meats, fresh seafood, an extensive wine and beer selection, and an on-site certified organic bakery featuring artisan breads.

It also has large sections for fresh produce and cheese along with a gelato bar, a fresh sushi station, a pizza oven, a noodle bar, and a lox and bagels bar.

The wine and beer department has a dedicated wine steward to help shoppers find the perfect beverage for every occasion. A store chef is available to customers seeking help with menu or ingredient ideas, and an in-store nutritionist will be on hand to offer free dietary consultations. As with other New Seasons Market stores there will be a year-round program of health classes and lectures.

The cooking school will offer demonstration classes and pairing-style classes – for example pairing recipes from Spain with Spanish wines. Participants will be taught by New Seasons Market chefs, in-store nutritionists and food experts, and will have opportunities to experiment with new recipes and ingredients or fine-tune casual dining meals. For more information on class
schedules, registration and fees go to www.newseasonsmarket.com.

The Happy Valley store will offer customers New Seasons Market’s largest wellness department and pharmacy––both staffed by experienced and knowledgeable people. The wellness department will offer vitamins, supplements and hundreds of health and beauty aids. The full-service pharmacy offers conventional, natural and complementary wellness products. Pharmacy staff will
specialize in compounding—customizing medications prescribed by the customer’s doctor.

“Our goal is to truly be the friendliest store in town. We want customers to look forward to doing their shopping and to know that if they have any questions, we’re here to help,” said Mark Feuerborn, manager of the Happy Valley store.”

The New Seasons Market store will anchor the new Happy Valley Town Center being developed by Gramor Development. The Town Center, under construction now, will be an approximately 220,000-square-foot mixed-use development comprising the largest amount of retail space on Sunnyside Road east of I-205.
